About reservations

How can I change or cancel my reservation?
If you wish to change or cancel your reservation, please do so on the website where you made the reservation at least 7 days before the scheduled departure date.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but if you wish to change or cancel your reservation less than 7 days before, please contact us at land-n-cruise@i-ma.jp

Cancellation fee
The following cancellation fee will be charged depending on the time of cancellation. The calculation basis for the cancellation fee is the usage fee for a minimum of 3 days of use.
• 7 days to 2 days before the travel date: 30% of the usage fee
• The day before the start of the trip: 50% of the usage fee
• On the day of the trip: 100% of the usage fee
• Cancellation without notice: 100% of the usage fee

Cancellation due to our circumstances
If the reservation is canceled in advance due to our circumstances, we will pay the penalty based on the rental terms and conditions.

Cancellation due to force majeure
If the reservation is canceled in advance due to reasons beyond our control or the customer's control, such as worsening weather, no cancellation fee will be charged.

Changes and cancellations of reservations
If you wish to change the date or cancel your reservation, please be sure to contact us by phone or email at least 7 days before the date of use.

Cancellation without permission
If you do not arrive more than one hour after the scheduled time without contacting us in advance, we will consider it a cancellation without permission and will charge you 100% of the usage fee as a cancellation fee.

Can I change the type or grade of the vehicle after making a reservation?
Vehicle changes after booking are possible depending on the availability of stock. If you wish to make a change, please contact us at least 5 days in advance.
If my return flight is early in the morning or late at night, is special arrangements (pick-up and return) possible?
Special arrangements may be possible, so please consult us at the time of reservation. Additional costs may apply.

Driving qualifications

I do not have a Japanese driver's license, but can I rent a car?
Yes, even if you do not have a Japanese driver's license, you can rent a car if you meet one of the following conditions:

If you have a valid international driver's license (issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention)
If you have a valid driver's license from one of the following countries and a Japanese translation
In either case, you will need to present it along with your passport.
Do I need an international driver's license? Also, which countries' licenses are valid?
An international driver's license issued by a member country of the 1949 Geneva Convention is valid. The main member countries include the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, etc. However, for driver's licenses from the seven countries of Switzerland, Germany, France, Taiwan, Belgium, Slovenia, and Monaco, you can use them without an international driver's license by attaching a Japanese translation. Please note that international driver's licenses based on the Paris Convention of 1926, the Washington Convention of 1943, and the Vienna Convention of 1968 are invalid in Japan.
Are there any restrictions on driving history?
Generally, there are no specific driving history restrictions as long as you have a valid driver's license or international driver's license. However, please note the following:
Driving with an international driver's license or foreign driver's license is only valid for one year from the date of entry into Japan.
If you are recorded in the Japanese Basic Resident Register or have been registered as a foreign resident and re-enter Japan after staying overseas for less than three months, you will not be allowed to drive with an international driver's license from the date of entry.
Can multiple drivers take turns driving? Also, is there an additional fee?
In principle, only those who have made a prior declaration and presented their driver's license and international driver's license can drive. Also, if you have multiple drivers, please select the "Add Driver" option and declare it when making a reservation. Please note that an additional fee will be charged separately.

Fees and Payment

What is included in the fee?
Our fee includes the vehicle rental fee, ETC card rental fee (usage fee is charged separately), and insurance-related fees as stated in the terms and conditions.
There is no need to refuel the car before returning it.
Are there any payment methods other than credit card?
We apologize for the inconvenience, but as a general rule, we ask that you pay by credit card on our website. Thank you for your understanding.
Do you have a shuttle service to the airport or station?
We provide a shuttle service to New Chitose Airport. Depending on the content of your inquiry, we may be able to accommodate you at other locations, so we would appreciate it if you could contact us as soon as possible. (In some cases, fees may be charged. In that case, we will inform you of the fee in advance, so please rest assured.)
Are there any cases in which additional fees are charged?
Additional fees may be charged when using options, or when some kind of charge is made to the renter. (For example, cleaning fees and repair fees may be charged depending on the dirt or damage of the vehicle. Charged fees will be provided in a separate document.) How to use

Can I return the vehicle outside business hours?
We apologize for the inconvenience, but as a general rule, we rent and return the vehicle during business hours.
Can I extend the time of use of the vehicle?
As a general rule, the vehicle will be rented and returned according to the reserved usage time. If you would like to extend the time, please contact us at least 24 hours before the scheduled return time. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate your request depending on the situation.
Can I leave the vehicle at the rental location (one-way rental)?
We apologize for the inconvenience, but as a general rule, we do not allow you to leave the vehicle at the rental location.
How should I report scratches or defects on the vehicle?
As a general rule, please contact the contact information provided at the time of contract when the problem occurs and when you return the vehicle. We will respond according to the condition of the vehicle, etc.
Do I need to follow the prescribed procedures even if the vehicle is only slightly scratched and not an accident?
Yes, you do. Regardless of the size of the scratches or dents, or whether there was another party involved, it will be treated as an "accident." Please make sure to follow the prescribed procedures, even if you are unsure. (If the necessary procedures are not taken, insurance and compensation may not be applied, and you may have to pay for it. We will explain how to deal with problems in a separate document.
Do I need to clean the car when I return it?
As a general rule, we ask that you return it in the same condition as when you rented it.
If it is difficult to return it to its original state, such as if it is dirty with snow or mud, please let us know when you return it. In this case, we may charge you cleaning fees at our discretion. Thank you for your understanding.
How do I use the gas station?
We will give you information at the time of contract, so please check that information.
Can I bring my pet with me?
As a general rule, pets are not allowed to ride with us. Thank you for your understanding.
Can I choose between smoking and non-smoking cars?
As a general rule, all vehicles are non-smoking. If we find that you are smoking in our rental vehicle, you may be fined and charged a cleaning fee. Thank you for your understanding.

Response in an emergency

Do you provide support in the event of bad weather (heavy snow, etc.)?
We are sorry, but as a general rule, we do not provide any special support. We do not assume that you will use your car in bad weather such as heavy snow. If it is difficult to drive safely, we strongly recommend that you refrain from traveling by car. In the unlikely event that you are unable to drive due to an accident deep in the mountains, please contact the emergency contact number attached.
Could you tell me about insurance?
The insurance we subscribe to includes the following:
(1) Personal compensation: unlimited.
(2) Property compensation: unlimited (zero deductible).
(3) Vehicle compensation: market price (zero deductible).
(4) Personal injury compensation: unlimited.
In principle, we are able to fully cover any damages that may occur to customers due to any trouble. (If you do not strictly adhere to the rental agreement, such as not contacting the police or our company, we may not be able to cover the damages, so please be sure to strictly adhere to the rental agreement.)

Other

Are there any optional equipment such as child seats or ski racks?
The options listed on the reservation page are available, so please select the options you need and make your reservation. (In some cases, we may not be able to accept the addition of options on the day. Thank you for your understanding.)
Can I choose a left-hand drive car?
As a general rule, you can only select it if you can make a reservation on the website.
If it is not listed on the website, it is not available/out of stock. Thank you for your understanding.
What should I know about traffic rules in Japan?
Please refer to the attached sheet for information on road signs and traffic rules. If you are not familiar with driving in Japan, please read it before driving.
